When you go to look for a tool or other item in your garage, can you find it? If not, your garage may need a dose of organization. Fortunately, there are simple things you can do to organize your garage, so you can find anything. Checkout four ways to organize your garage.
Use a Pegboard
Putting a pegboard on one wall of your garage means you have a place to hang your tools including hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches and more. A pegboard helps with organization because you can see exactly what you have at a glance. Plus, it frees up space on your countertop, so you can work on projects without having to clear away the clutter.
Rig Up a Paper Towel Dispenser
A paper towel dispenser is no longer just for paper towels. Rig up a metal or plastic dispenser on one wall. Then, instead of putting a roll of paper towels on it, put a roll of trash bags on it. This allows you to find a trash bag whenever you need it and you don’t have to keep a bulky box of trash bags out on your counter.
Utilize Clear Plastic Containers for Small Items
Garage storage cabinet systems are great for adding organization to the area. Try using plastic containers to organize the screws, nuts, nails and washers you keep inside your cabinets. Set aside a container for each type of item so you don’t have to search through a pile of nails, washers and nuts to find a screw. This organization task is a little time-consuming, but it pays off in the end. Plus, you can take a container out and place it on the counter if necessary.
Label Items in Overhead Cabinets
If you have overhead cabinets, try to keep frequently used items in them. This makes the items easy to retrieve so you don’t have to leave your work to conduct a search. Place a label on each cabinet door revealing what is inside. So, if someone else comes to help you with a project, he or she can find supplies and materials without having to ask you.
Organizing your garage can make it a more inviting place to be. Plus, sometimes organizing the garage can give you more space for bicycles, tools and even your car!
